ME001
The premise for this shot is basically there is a hostage
situation within the movie. Each of the hostages are fitted with
explosive vests that will detonate if removed from a radio range.
Previously in the movie, the cops "save" one of the hostages and try to
remove her from the situation when the get outside the radius she,
and they blow up. When the concept was being tossed around Boyd created
a very special type of explosion of sand soaked in gasoline with primer
cord imbedded all throughout it. The effects is a discus shaped cloud
of smoke then several seconds later the primer cord ignites and explodes
then the gasoline that was spewn from the initial trigger. For a
CG explosion, its phoneomenal.
